Abstract submission

Dear Colleagues

The CiiEM Congress provides a high level multidisciplinary experience, with the joint participation of international members from a growing series of research centers that interact with CiiEM in projects and other partnerships. This year the Congress will be held jointly with the 3rd World Congress of the Unesco Chair for Teaching and Research.

The output of the Congress, both extended abstracts and full papers, will be published at the author’s discretion in the journal “Annals of Medicine”, a prestigious publication with a 5 year impact factor of 3.968. Full papers will be peer reviewed by the journal’s editor as usual, and the extended abstracts will also undergo peer review conducted by the Congress Scientific Committee to ensure high standards of quality across the entire publication. Only extended abctracts will give option for congress oral comunication or poster. A publication fee of 30€ will be requested before the final submission of the manuscripts for publishing.

We invite all interested colleagues to join us in this endeavour, and enrich the congress experience by participating in its presentations and discussions.

Abstracts or full papers should be uploaded to the web site with the form below. The abstract or full papers must be a word document (pdfs will not be accepted) whose name shall be the last name of the presenting author followed by the preferred type of presentation (oral or poster). Ex: lastname_oral.doc or lastname_poster.doc.

General rules

  • Communication to authors on approved/rejected abstracts and type of presentation (Oral/Poster): 4th June
  • The best poster will be awarded with a free registration at one of the Workshops or a free registration on the 3rd International Congress of CiiEM

Each participant can submit 2 abstracts and 2 full papers as first author, and only can present a maximum of 2 works. However, can submit in co-authoring any number of abstracts and full papers. The abstracts have one A4 sized page. Abstracts include six sections: 1) Introduction; 2) Materials and Methods; 3) Results 4) Discussion and Conclusions; 5) References and 6). Acknowledgements (Check the template).

When appropriate, a statement should be included in the Materials and Methods section indicating that the informed consent of the subjects and acceptance of the study protocol by a local ethics committee has been obtained.


Number references consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text. Identify references in the text, tables and legends by Arabic numerals within parentheses, e.g. (1) List all authors when 6 or fewer; when 7 or more, list the first six and add et al. Page numbers are given as “2284-90”, not “2284-2290”. Examples:

The abstracts/full papers must be prepared with the utmost care to ensure strict adherence to the instructions in this page and in the abstract template. Misformatted abstracts will be returned to the authors for correction before they can be verified and accepted. The deadline must be respected and will not be extended.

The final decision regarding the type of communication will be made by the Organizing Committee and communicated to the authors until the specified deadline.


A Peer review process will take place after the Congress to help the authors to improve their abstracts or full papers if needed, ensuring the high publication standards of the journal. Acceptance for publication depends on this Peer Review and not on the prior acceptance of the communication.

*Oral communications and Poster

The scientific presentations of the Congress include four types of formats*, and Oral communications and Poster only, are subject to premium.

* Plenary; Keynote; Oral communication; Poster.

The work, candidates for prize (Oral communication and Poster) must be original. The prior presentation of the work in other scientific events is exclusion criterion.

Are considered scientific presentations, laboratory experiments and animal studies, epidemiological studies, clinical trials and systematic review, as well as case study (clinical) or series of cases (clinical trials).

All authors of scientific presentations involving biomedical research on human subjects, will be responsible for the adoption of the highest ethical principles, in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki;

Presentations for Plenary sessionsKeynotes and Oral Communications must / should be delivered on the day of the session at the following times:

7:30 – Morning session, beginning at 09:00

12:30 – Afternoon session starting at 2:30 p.m.

Presenters who want to test the presentations should do so in the respective auditorium of their presentation and may occupy for the following hours: 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., as they are spoken in the morning or afternoon. We alert for the fact that there is a constant presence in the place.

The submitting authors will be notified that at 1 minute before the end of their presentation, they will have to finish it, in this period of time. After that time, your presentation will be interrupted, in order to respect the smooth running of the Congress. The element responsible for this action must be sure that the speaker has seen his warning signal.

Each Plenary session will have a time of 30 minutes, including discussion (25 min presentation + 5 min discussion);

Each Keynote will usually have a time of 20 minutes, including discussion (15min + 5min);

The session moderators will also be advised of the control of their time, regarding the discussion of the work, OR 1 minute after the end of the discussion will also be informed.

Each Oral Communication will have a time of 10 minutes, including discussion (7 minutes of presentation + 3 minutes discussion);

Posters have a maximum size of A0 – portrait (approx. 85 X 115 cm)

As for the posters, we must say that they will be posted by the author; in the place indicated by the Congress Organization and that they must be exposed throughout the Congress time (being posted at 9:00 am on 21.06). The poster session will take place on 21.06 at 15:00 (see program). The poster’s author must remain with the poster during this session.

All posters will be affixed exclusively with sticker provided by the organization to not damage the walls.

After the poster session, the poster must be affixed until the end of the Congress and on that day (22.06) removed, by its author. The organization of the congress is not responsible, for the works that were posted, after the end of day 22.06.
